About the Gathering
“The general principles behind Earth First! are non-hierarchical organisation and the use of direct action to confront, stop and eventually reverse the forces that are responsible for the destruction of the Earth and its inhabitants. EF! is not a cohesive group or campaign, but a convenient banner for people who share similar philosophies to work under.”
If you agree with the above and you are not discriminatory, if you believe action speaks louder than words, then Earth First! is for you.
If you're new to all this and you want to find out more, Earth First! Gathering is a safe space to do that in.
...If you're just looking for a festival, maybe skip Earth First! Gathering.
Whether you think of EF! as a movement, a network, an idea or simply a name to use for actions, get involved - you are Earth First!
We are looking for presentations and facilitated discussions to fit under three broad themes:
Not just as radical ecologists, but as people who are part of resistance movements. From the Diggers, to the Black Panthers, From Italian Autonomists to Russian Anarchists of the early 20th Century. We believe that in order to develop and grow we need to learn from our rich history of past and ongoing struggles. We are not the first to participate in the struggle against state and coporate power, others have done so and we can learn from their success and failures. If you feel you can teach and guide others in learning about past struggles please get in touch.
In our everyday lives we are trapped inside capitalism, and more often than not end up reproducing its cultural norms. At this year's gathering we'd like to create spaces where we can challenge ourselves to move beyond certain patterns of behaviour. So, we're looking for people to facilitate workshops around issues such as male privilege, transphobia, queer politics, class/privilege, anarcha-feminism and safer spaces.
Skill sharing has often been at the hub of the Earth First! Summer Gatherings, and we'd like that to continue this year. We'd would however like to see skill shares with even greater relevancy to resistance, a greater connection between sharing the skill and its everyday use. Are there skills you have that you feel are necessary that allow us to resist with greater intensity, that empower us to become less reliant on capitalism, if so get in touch.
Contact us if your interested in putting on a workshop.
